Its Time To Kick Out The Useless Political Parties and Fix Our Health Care System
Today I caught up with Tammy Munro and Robbie Moore from the HACSU Tasmania.
Honestly, after speaking with them for half an hour, I walked away feeling completely P!#&+D OFF on their behalf and their health care and community service members, numbering 11300.
The recent state budget indicates there will be job cuts and reduction in wages over time. Put simply, these politicians should be in prison for what they continually choose to do to our health care professionals. Perhaps in time they just might.
The Health & Community Services Union Tasmania branch essentially represents all disciplines of health and community care except doctors. That’s a lot of essential people in our communities. But their situation is our situation and its dire!
- Waiting times for services are looking like third world country wait times.
- Closing of facilities is only adding to the already overloaded health system.
- Simply accessing services is at all time difficulties.
- There is rife wage theft. When an employer overpays, it is expected to repay it back instantly, but when the employees are underpaid, it can take months, sometimes years to be compensated.
- The workspaces for our health workers in many cases are like prison cells and overcrowded with significantly under resourcing.
- The pay parity between Tasmania and the Mainland is completely unacceptable. The tired old rusted on excuse to pay Tasmanians much less no longer has any credibility. We all know this.
- In the private sector, workers have options of application to stop workplace bullying, but the public service does not. Our public service health works must have access to a streamline and highly effective application to stop workplace bullying.
- The highest echelons of public health service management are ignoring the workplace bullying and culture or haphazardly try to address the chronic problem through mediocre and ineffective intervention strategies.
- Aged care and the NDIS are not meshing well and there is no system for aged care emergency situations.
- There are cases where clients needing 24-hour care which are housed 4 clients to a house, are not receiving 24-hour care. Put simply, there is no one physically there.
- Some private companies are rorting the NDIS system and significantly underpaying their works. This leads to staff shortages and not enough carers because they cannot live on peanuts!
- Some workers are being required to perform tasks that is beyond the scope of their training and experience. Meanwhile the businesses are rorting payments but won’t pay for the continual professional development of the workforce.
- In Burnie, the child safety officer role has been repeatedly readvertised but because the pay is so low, no one is applying for it. So now we have the case where we only have one Child Safety Officer, with the entire weight of responsibility for Children’s Safety on their shoulders in a completely under resourced and staffed system.
- Tasmania is an aging population, we have health professional retiring faster than we can replace them because of pitiful pay and workplace conditions, therefore the staffing ratios continue to fall.
Yet, we are expected to pay homage to a state government that is completely captured by corporate interests and would rather stroke their egos building an unnecessary billion-dollar stadium rather than putting the wellbeing of their citizens and taxpayers first.
Their actions speak volumes, they don’t care about you.
How do we pay to fix our completely broken health care system?
